You'll Never Grow Old and You'll Never Die. But You Must Feed!

I totally thought my loverboy Jimmy Barnes was new to me.

It turns out he's not.

He's on the Lost Boys soundtrack! I always knew INXS was on the soundtrack. And I always knew they were Australian. But I had no idea about Jimmy Barnes!

My sister and I were totally into that movie. After it came out, my family happened to go to California for a road trip. We ended up in Santa Cruz where the amusement park scenes were filmed. Later, in college, I ended up falling in love with a guy from Santa Cruz. Before him, I had been in a serious relationship with a guy who looked a bit like Kiefer Sutherland. Kiefer Sutherland is one of the stars of The Lost Boys.

Kiefer Sutherland is the grandson of a Canadian political leader. I had a vivid dream about him in high school which led to me writing a fairly horrible novel that I've had absolutely no success with.

Julian McMahon is the son of an Australian political leader. I had many vivid dreams about him and that eventually led to this relentless obsession with Australia.

I believe this Australia obsession was my destiny, and that's why I had the dreams. But until now I had no idea WHY.

But now I think I know.

It all happened so I'd finally learn that Jimmy Barnes is on the Lost Boys Soundtrack.

They say the truth will set you free.

I don't feel exactly free yet. I feel a bit tired and snotty.

Maybe this is because I haven't yet discovered the full truth.

The full truth is probably about the recent Lost Boys sequel.

Something is telling me I should watch it.

Or more likely...something is warning me NOT to watch it.

One day, I'll understand. And then I'll probably roll my eyes at the stupidity of it all.

ANYWAY..... In other music news, my current song obsession is actually not Australian. It's the song "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding". They sang it on A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All. Oh! Wait. It does have an Australian connection! Midnight Oil had a cover for it on the B side of their single for "Put Down that Weapon".

I love the song. It fits well with the feelings I've had while doing all this political research.

Here are the lyrics:

As I walk through this wicked world
Searchin for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside, There's one thing I wanna know: Whats so funny bout peace love and understanding?
And as I walked on Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony? Sweet harmony.
Cause each time I feel it slippin away, just makes me wanna cry.
Whats so funny bout peace love and understanding?
So where are the strong? And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony? Sweet harmony.
Cause each time I feel it slippin away, just makes me wanna cry.
Whats so funny bout peace love and understanding?

I don't usually push people to buy things, but I highly recommend downloading the Colbert Christmas special album. No, I don't work for Stephen Colbert.

But I WISH I did.

  1. I used to love it when I "discovered" random musicians who ended up being on some sdtk that I owned! Like finding out that Leonard Cohen had written "that song" from the "Pump Up the Volume" sdtk... why I'd been a fan for years and didn't know it!

  2. Mandy,

It is cool! Although I think this may be the first time it's happened to me. Or maybe it happened before and I forgot.

  3. BARNESY!!!!

    *Ahem*

A few years ago hubby was at a conference event being held at Dream World on the Gold Coast and the company he works for had arranged for Jimmy to perform live at the event. It was pissing down rain and the audience were standing out in the weather, all wearing silly hats and singing along drunkenly with Barnesy. The 2 American visitors Adam was standing with observed that Aussies must really like Jimmy Barnes.

  5. The new Lost Boys movie is awful! It does not do the original justice at all.

There are a few bits and pieces that are funny and make reference to the original, but all in all it's not good.

One funny part is that they got that same guy who was playing the saxophone on the beach (the first time Michael sees Star); and he's a street musician and all out of shape and bloaty.

There's some deleted scenes that I think should have been included to make it a lot better.

  6. Rebecca,

I would never remember the Sax guy!! I'd have no idea. Did you recognize/know it or read it somewhere???

  7. Before I saw Lost Boys 2; I read some trivia that he was in the second one as well. It's super fast, it's right in the opening credits and just shows him playing in the street.

He does not look like this anymore.

  8. Rebecca, LOL. Okay, I remember that. You know, when you wrote the first comment about it, I was picturing some street performer in the background...kind of just someone they pass by. I was like how can anyone remember that! But that sax guy in the scene had a fairly big role. If I had scene the movie recently, I'd probably know who you were talking about.
