My Love For Sookie Stackhouse

Last night I finished the last Sookie Stackhouse novel that's currently available (although I do have a collection of Sookie short stories that I shall read soon). I've been waxing poetic about my beloved Sookie lately. So last night, Jack asks me. What do you like better, Australia or True Blood?Without hesitation I said, Australia. After a pause though, I changed my answer. I said maybe for now, I loved them equally.

Jack then said something like, You know what would be your utopia? A vampire book that takes place in Australia.

I think he has something there. I need to look out for such books. I have read one Australian vampire novel...The Reformed Vampire Support Group. I liked it, but not as much as I love Sookie.
If any of you know of some good Australian vampire novels, please point me in their direction.

I'm looking for some good teenage fiction.. not sure what kind. Not vampires, though!

  2. HappyOrganist,

I LOVE teenage fiction. Although the Sookie Stackhouse books are for adults. They're kind of the adult version of Twilight...although they came out first.

I'm tempted to suggest books for you. And I'm going to give into my temptation. You can just ignore me if you'd like.

    Let's see...

Have you tried Meg Cabot? I'm thinking you'd enjoy more happy easygoing stuff. I don't think I've read her teen stuff, but I've read some of her adult books. There easy and fun. Nothing really dark and traumatic.

I'd stay away from John Marsden. I think his stuff would be way too depressing for you.

Catherine Jinks has fun stuff. You probably wouldn't like the ghost and vampire stuff, but she has a series about a genius kid. I'm not sure if you'd like it or not.

There's that Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. I read one of the books, and liked it. Have you read any?

You could always go old school and do Sweet Valley High.

If you want to go deep and cultural, there's Chaim Potek's "The Chosen".

I'm looking at my Shelfari list now. The problem is there are so many books I never recorded on that.

    Let's see.....

Eragon is a good dragon story.

"Does My Head Look Big in This" is a great novel about a Palestinian-Australian. It's serious, but also funny.

Melina Marchetta wrote two good books about teens in Sydney.

There's so much good stuff out there. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of it. I hope you find something you like.

  4. Happy Organist:

Sweet Valley High is hard to beat! Did you read those before? I should go back to reading them because I'm sure there's a ton that I've missed.

  5. What crowd were you a part of in High School?

    just wondering.

I thought Sweet Valley High was for preps.

Although I really wouldn't know, I guess. maybe not. I remember them (the series) being popular when I was in junior high. But I never got into that at all.

  6. HappyOrganist,

I wasn't really in any crowd. I definitely wasn't a prep or anything like that. I was never popular, but didn't really fit into any other groups either.

I think I was known as one of the quiet weird ones.
