Albuquerque Zoo

We went to the Albuquerque Zoo today, because I wanted to see the Tasmanian Devils.

We saw them. They were adorable...like always.

It's sad, though. As the posted signs reminded us, the Tassie Devils are endangered because of the whole facial cancer thing. There was a sign suggesting that we make a donation to their cause. I wanted to; and I wanted there to be a little collection bucket thing. I couldn't find one, which is annoying. It's so much easier to donate to charities anonymously, because then you don't have to worry about getting bombarded with mailings.

The Albuquerque Zoo had a lot of other Aussie animals—kookaburras, kangaroos, a koala, rainbow lorikeets, a sulfur-crested cockatoo, a tree kangaroo, a wombat, and a few other creatures. They have an impressive collection.

I also liked a few non-Aussie animals. My favorites: the polar bears and the gibbons. The gibbons were adorable.

I think Jack's favorite thing was feeding the ducks. I enjoyed that too.

It was a nice visit overall. The only thing I'd change is I would have left my camera in the car. I felt too pressured to get good photos. And I failed.

I feel, on this trip, I've become one of those people who worry too much about capturing the beauty around me.  And I did get some nice photos this past week. But some of the best moments will be missing from my Flickr album—the Tasmanian devils; the adorable baby gibbon; the beautiful rocks we quickly passed by in Arizona; going upside down on a Disney roller coaster; laughing hysterically and screaming with my family as we get soaking wet on a water ride, the huge cactuses, etc.
