I'm reading an Australian zombie novel: Aftermath by Owen Baillie.
They buried one of the character's zombified mother, and I suddenly realized he was referring to her as Mom rather than Mum.
What's the deal? Do people actually say Mom in Australia? It won't shock me. I'm getting used to learning that Australians use terms I consider to be not-Australian—cookie, soccer, high school...
Well, I have just three examples for now. But I probably have more somewhere in my head.
